The Totally Normal Event - Voltaire

Put on by Jeff Mach, this is his last non-Wicked Faire event for some time. Proceeds will be going to SPARC, Summer Program for Academic Reach and Creativity. It is a nonprofit summer program for gifted adolescents, founded by people closely involved with WickedEvents. It is On June 28th and tickets are $20 in advance, $30 at the door - you can't beat this price for the performers who will be there.

The premise: "The Totally Normal Event takes place in a universe much like our own, only one in which most fantasy, mythology, and science fiction is essentially true. The idea is that, under the guise of being some sort of convention for normal humans who dress up, we're actually those creatures of myth, disguised. Not disguised very well, mind you, but still.

Within the event itself is an enormous world of entertainments, performances, workshops, pleasures, panels, parties, and entertainments.

And we're working on a Secret Project to extend the event outside the confines of time and place..."

Performers include Voltaire, The Dresden Dolls, Sxip and the Luminescent Orchestrii, Freezepop, Barry Louis Polisar, Isaac Bonewits, The White Elephant Burlesque Society (which is worth going just to see them), David W. Jacobsen, Psyche Corporation, Lilith Lore, Captain Velocity, Mary Cyn, Daniel the Jester, The Mighty Mike Saga, Aaron Glotfelter (the Erotic Hypnotist) and Princess Sunshine. This is in addition to all the parties being held by the Tribes (of which there are four: The Makers [mad scientists], The Takers [evil overlords], The Hedonists [do I need to explain that one?], and The Talesenders [Harnessing the power of story] and other smaller happenings including a The Silent Auction, Rock Band Ball, Human Bingo, Screening of Straight On Till Morning, and many, many more.

For those with extra cash, there (as always at events) will be loads of vendors! They include: Speampunk Weaponary, Face/Body painting, Ruff Doggie Styles, Sculptoons, BondcoDSM, Oxelot Cyberlox, Nicholas Leather, Secret Shop, Christina Yoder, Queen of the Cat People, Ishta Arts, The Pointy Eared Artisan, For Your Nymphomation, Radiance Bound, Horror Show Jack, DragonWeave Jewelry, The Drum and Whistle, Nightshade Leather, The Five Wits, Griffons Claw Armoury, Brute Force Leather, Private Island Toys, Crystals, Grendel's Den, David Sklar, and Dragonflame Archery.

And don’t forget the after-parties, they rock!

Also, there will be some pre-event happenings on Friday night as the staff and many, many minions will be there early to set up and there are parties in the works.

I caught Voltaire in Atlanta for the "Maiden Voyage" tour with Ego Likeness. Very cool... got to talk to him again... always fun. Picked up a couple more CDs from V plus the Neil Gaiman tribute CD (with Ego Likeness, Voltaire, Cruxshadows, etc). Anyone else catch him on this, his first "offical" US tour? (my 2nd Voltaire concert this year... waiting for number 3 at Dragoncon).

Ok people! It's offical - the Coffin Car is for sale.

Yeah, you heard me right. The Coffin Car, seen at Nocturne, seen at Dracula's Ball, seen at Communion (while it was at the Red Room) is for sale. It has to find a new home - we don't have room anymore!

It's up on eBay right now and below is a link to a vid we did awhile ago. Eric's really selling it and the first one to meet the reserve gets it. He has a bunch of other projects going and this one has been around for too long - time for someone else to ejnoy it! and time for us to build something more evil.

Just thought I'd pop on and say hello. I agree that that last one in the cod-piece is um.... nice.
IN case anyone is interested, Voltaire has apparently made a sideproject called The Oddz, which is working on it's first alblum now. I hate Myspace, but both of the aforementioned are there.
I would love to have some pretty picd myself, if anyone is willing to donate???
Ok, well, bye for now,

Eccentrik - 10/23/04 in Raleigh, NC

The Eccentrik Festival is a one-day event featuring musicians, DJs, artists, and vendors. The first annual Eccentrik will be held on Saturday, October 23rd in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Brewery and the Cantina.

Spread over these two neighboring venues on Hillsborough Street, the Eccentrik Festival will feature a full day of live music in the Brewery and vendors, artwork, and DJs in the Cantina, with poi (fire-spinning) in the driveway between the two. A burlesque troupe will be featured during one of the DJ sets.

Razed In Black will headline the festival, bringing their blend of hard industrial, coldwave, futurepop and metal to North Carolina for the second time ever.

More Machine Than Man is a multimedia fetish/cyber-goth project featuring performance art as well as guitar-driven industrial dance music.

Opening the live music aspect of the festival will be Raleigh-based electronic duo RJE, an ongoing side project from members of Nomad Project A.V. and enc0der.

Ego Likeness is a female-fronted band out of Baltimore, Maryland that draws comparisons to such diverse groups as Berlin, Concrete Blonde, and Collide.

RED ALL OVER is a female-fronted Charlotte band whose melodic, danceable songs are reminiscent of late-’80s alternative music with a dose of modern European electro-pop.

Oddstar is a self-described "electrogothicspacerock" band from Asheville, North Carolina with an ethereal undercurrent beneath elements of early electronic and darkwave styles. This is a band who could have been at home on the Projekt label, especially during its early days.

Haitian Hate Gods, a self-described industrial funk band out of North Carolina, features female vocals. The band’s sound blends driving industrial floor-stompers and soulful slow numbers.

Clockwerk fuses elements of both dark ambient noise and aggressive industrial experimentalism. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based trio are inspired by bands such as Clock DVA, Front 242, and Skinny Puppy.

Raleigh’s own Threshold 6 is a dark electronic band whose sound ranges from fast-paced and danceable to slinky and seductive.

The DJ lineup includes New York City’s DJ Chad Collins as well as a roster of Carolinas DJs that includes DJ Anarathoth, Count Zackula & DJ Konstruct, DJ Kalyx, DJ Kantrip, DJ Nguinn, DJ Scarab, DJ Nareau, DJ Telal, and DJ Zero Anjel.

Items for sale at the vendor tables will include gothic house wares, clothing and accessories, mehendi tattoos, and custom-made fangs.

The Clarion State Capitol is the official hotel of Eccentrik. Rooms are $63 per night; ask for the Eccentrik block of rooms.

I am sure you are all aware of the Deady line of shirts that Voltaire has designed, which are available at Hot Topic. They are also now available at Torrid.

Voltaire has a Deady graphic novel coming out as well.

There is a fan on the yahoo group making another batch of Voltaire underwear. (the last batch went well, and more people wanted to order) If there is any interest here, I can get ahold of her and find out about how you can order them. (or if you can) There are only enough being made as are pre-ordered, however. They have the image from the Devils Bris on them.

How did you find out about Voltaire?

and are you a fan of his comics, his music or both?

I found out about Volataire in 97 or so from a girlfriend who put on the Devils Bris one day. I went out and got my own copy later that week.

Since then I have been on a mission of trying to introduce as many people I can to Voltaire. I even set up a couple of live shows in Saint Louis, MO.

Voltaire in Cali!

Voltaire will be doing an in-store performance at Ipso Facto on Sunday, April 25th. Ipso Facto is located at 517 N. Harbor Blvd. in Fullerton, CA. This is a FREE Acoustic Performance, All Ages, and the show starts at 5pm. I don't know if he's playing anywhere else while he's out in Cali, so far I think just at Ipso Facto. I can't wait for this, I didn't think we were ever gonna get him to come out here again. This should be really cool, so if you're in the area you should totally come check it out!
